A joint venture agreement was entered into between Chloride Group Plc and Taurus Batteries (Pty) Ltd to set up an automotive battery factory in Botswana.
The first automotive battery was manufactured in Botswana by Chloride Exide Botswana.
The Adam family bought the company shares from Chloride Group Plc and became equal business partners with Taurus Batteries (Pty) Ltd. Production capacity reached 50,000 units per annum in 1995.
The company penetrated the Namibia, Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Swaziland battery markets. Part of the manufacturing equipment was later moved to a new 15,000 square metre site, improving total production capacity to 500,000 units per annum.
Chloride expanded exports to Lesotho and automated its plate making plant as part of its continuing manufacturing development.
